Every year I complain about the kids going back to school because I hate having to deal with homework, fighting with the kids over doing homework and forcing them to read. However, this year, I had a different complaint...I didn't want them to go back to school because I feel like they are all grown up. Let me explain...Zach is going to be a Freshman and this is Mason's last year in elementary school so to me this was their last summer of being "kids". They were at home a lot this summer (previous summers they were always gone), they also spent a lot of time with Dad and Jeanette and towards the end of summer they spent time with Jerry. Right now they enjoy being with their grandparents - not that they won't in the future...but the reality of it is the older they get the more they hang out with friends are more active. This year the kids played baseball, went camping, went to a Reds game and went to Zoombezi Bay. I feel like I didn't get enough time with the kids this summer, but I know they had a good time when they said, "this has been the best summer."
Zach was really excited about going back to school. I think the thought of being a "freshman" was exciting for him. Every year it gets a little harder for me to take a picture of him because he doesn't want anyone to see that I'm taking a first day of school picture plus he has to leave so early in the morning that its dark- so this year, I was smart...Monday night I had Zach put on his outfit he was going to wear the first day of school and we headed to the back yard so no one would see him. He was cracking me up...he was concerned that his shoes were going to get dirty in the yard so he didn't want to walk around the yard...please...he should have been my girl - he loves shoes!
Mason on the other hand was not excited...I would ask him if he was ready for school and his response was, "Mom, I don't want to talk about it, its still summer." OK, fine, however, on Monday we went to meet his teacher and he was ready to go. His teacher this year is Mrs. Jordan - this isn't the teacher he wanted because he heard she was mean, but trust me we don't have anything to worry about because Mason doesn't talk in school anyways. Mason rules the school this year, so he thinks he's cool!
Boys - I hope you have a great school year and I look forward to another great year watching you become fine young men!
