Today, I had to take Zach to Jag Days. We got his schedule (Black team), locker information, pictures (and ID) and fees paid for 8th grade. It's amazing how different your child acts once they enter the school building. Zach is usually a pretty silly kid most of the time but as soon as we walked inside he became this cool quiet kid that didn't want to be near his Mom. His picture was super cute, which also becomes his school ID and then headed to find his locker. This year he's going to Hilliard Memorial so we had to find a way around again, but once we found his locker it took us 10 times to figure out how to use a locker combination. I couldn't remember the whole start at 0, then go to the left, right, left - still can't exactly remember how we got into it, but we did. We then headed to the Media Center to get his books...again, Zach looked like he was totally embarrassed to be with his Mom. Afterwards, we headed to the exit and once we leave the building, BAM...Zach is back to his usual self - he said, "Mom, that wasn't so bad!" Ok, I thought to myself...is that the same kid that was just inside?
Then, Zach and I headed over to Target to get school supplies. Zach was totally funny and back to normal, so I started asking him if he knew any of the kids. He said, "I knew the girls in the library." I asked him why he didn't talk to them and this is what Zach said, "I didn't go up to them because I was with my Mom - you would have went up to them and said, Hi, I'm Zach's Mom. If I were Dad, he wouldn't have done anything." I said, "WHAT, I'm so cool and I would have never have done that to you." Zach said, "yea, right!" I think this is a sign that my little baby boy (first born) is growing up and hanging out with Mom in front of his friends is definately a no-no. I hope this is just an ackward stage for him and soon he'll want his Mommy back :)
